Scope a T/C Hawken

Bill from NJ

Quick question.

Has anyone used a scope on a cap lock Hawken Rifle?

My eyes are not getting any younger.

So, I Thought attaching a scope/mount would help.

Oh, and before you go this route…. I have Ghost Ring sights installed now.

Have tried many options before.

If you did install a scope and mount….

What mount did you use?

I have both 1" and 15/16" barrels.

My first ML was a T/C Sporter No 11 percussion, and I eventually put a scope on it when they became legal so I could shoot further distances with better accuracy.

It's definitely doable, touching groups at 100 yards was possible.

Hawken with a longer barrel might work out even better if you work out a nice accurate bullet/powder combo.

What twist barrel do you have?

Mount wise, it's an offset mount to not interfere with the side hammer. You'll likely need the barrel tapped.

Yes, it can be done. Don't see the point.  You can probably get a decent inline with a scope for a fair price.

It's a good point, back when I did it, I couldn't afford a new gun and scope, so I went with a scope and tapped my percussion ML.

Nowadays, the inline market is more competitive and a lot more options.

In hindsight, I don't necessarily regret doing it since it was a heavily used hunting firearm for many years, but now I do wish I still had the "original", unaltered version of that gun.

Like all things, it will come down to budget and what you're looking for in the short and long term.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

Check out Dixon's in Kempton Pa. They are 100% muzzle loaders everything from powder to hard to find parts to custom builds. If theres a mount or way to mount they will point u in the right direction.

Dixon's Perfect !

The only "inline" front stuffer I use is a Scout Carbine Rifle.

That is about as modern as I go.

Thanks for the leads guys.

correct all the hawkens and older style muzzys have a slower twist and the longer pennyslvania styles have extra slow....that's the way our blackpowdwr season should be older style equipment not muzzys shooting 200 yds with fail proof ignitions Edited by smoking gun

Well calling Dixons was a humbling experience.

The woman politely told me…. We don't put scopes on the rifles here.

Geez, you would think I was calling and asking for a hooker to be sent up to the hotel room.

I feel bad...

Guess I will just suck it up, and shoot with open sights at targets a little closer.

I strongly advise you wear your bright florescent orange with me around.
