Is it legal to snare rabbits and ground hogs in NJ?

Rabbits in the garden are very tasty - I recommend taking the legs and backstrap - you can bury the rest.

Oh, but to answer the question directly - no, I believe it is not legal to snare rabbits and groundhogs in NJ. The Digest page 62-64 doesn't list them as game animals legal to snare.

legal game seasons differ from property damage due to pests. dont quote me but i believe if animals are damaging your property your allowed to take care of the problem out of season. maybe others can chime in.

I remember a news article years ago of a senior citizen killing a deer because of the damage the deer was doing to his garden.......anyone remember details ??  I usually catch the pests in a have a hart trap and transport them over water or over a highway so they dont come back......this is I believe illegal without a permit.......

It is only illegal if you get caught. LOL.  If really concerned just call a CO or F&W.
