Ice fishing

Are any of New Jersey's waterbodies frozen enough for ice fishing yet? specifically interested in lake hopatcong

Took a ride today and looked at a few lakes: Greenwood is locked up ice is probably about 6".  Turtle Pond is locked up and someone was fishing. Monksville had some open water in the area near the dam, but the backwater by Beech road was frozen. There were tracks in the snow from yesterday.

According to that stupid boy scout poem 4" is safe. Personally I will not go out with less than 8". If ice is 4" thick in one spot it may only be 1"thick over a spring.

There have been a few people out ice fishing this past week.  Before this past weekend there was only 2-3 inches.  Can't confirm how much there is now but today's cold weather should help a lot.  I'm hoping to get out this weekend.

lake hopatcong has good ice in the coves.main lake still has some open spot that the wind keeps open.woodport,stae park and great cove all had peeps sat & sun.as always be careful.

Pretty much all of north Jersey has safe ice. With some exceptions, but we’re in great shape up here. Budd Lake had 5” before the storms and we didn’t see the high temps other parts of the state saw before the recent plummeting temps that are only thickening the ice now.

4-5 inches thick last Thursday in Stillwater !

was out testing some ponds in middlesex county. THICKEST i could find was 3'' in a small pond.
