The rut is officially on!

So I was at the Cherry Ridge range yesterday with another member of these wonderful forums, and we were sighting in my .30-06 with various rounds to see which were the best.  There were a few other folks on the range too with various long guns.

 

The range was hot and we were all shooting when my spotter gets my attention to let me know there's a deer running along the left side of the 100-yard range.  He alerted the line, and everyone stopped shooting.  The doe cut across the range at the 50-yard mark and ran across the whole thing.  Right behind her is a dopey fork buck chasing away.  Right as she disappears into the thick on the opposite side of the range, he stops, looks at the line with an expressions like, "What are you looking at?", and heads into the thick to resume his chase.

 

If any of us had been in the woods hunting, it would have been easy meat in the freezer.

 

Get out there folks and find the does, the dopey bucks are chasing!

Hahaha classic case of seeing deer everywhere but where ya can shoot em.

As you say until it gets you killed as I see more and more road kills in my area guess some does choose the Bumper then the Buck

Good story - never saw that at cherry ridge but have heard it happening in previous years - that said I'm in zone 8 and have seen nothing- argh

Had a bear walk right across the rifle range at Cherry Ridge while I was shooting over the summer
