Ringwood use to have the best XC mountain bike race in the state.  Till they found boulders starting to bleed.  Then realized they were not boulders but massive pollution dumps from the paint facility.  This was up near the NY/NJ border portion.  I know they hold races there again, but not sure what ever happened with clean up.  There is some nasty stuff buried in them mountains.  And the rumors I heard was Ford claims they hired a company to do their painting, so they are not responsible for any clean up.  Not sure how true/false, just what I heard.

Ford plant was in Mahwah where 17 and 287 meet the NYS Thruway. 1955 -1980
