So many blame fox and coyote for lowered populations.  I always believed raccoons, house cats, and cold wet springs resulting in poor poult success were the major reasons for declining bird populations

I agree but, I stumble on a lot more kill sites from predators than I used to.

Hopefully I can find a couple this year.  Some properties I hunt have them all winter, and one they don't show up until spring.

I hunt Mountains + Wetlands up in Sussex + Passaic Counties.  Hiked uphill to the Top of @%$ this morning.  ALOT of this sign below!

Coons are devastating on them

And Mississippi is having Non Resident Turkey Hunters " Draw" for Public Land Hunts from March 15th to the 28th. After that- open to everyone.

Being one of the first States to Open- there is a Deluge of non resident Turkey hunters hitting Public Dirt.

 Good Solution there.

All of which state wide populations (and statewide hunting availability, no zone delineations to my knowledge) that have experienced declines the last 10-20 years, probably due with that regard. NJ isn't those same shoes. Statewide population has overall grown and sustained in that same time period albeit localized ebb and flow. Which there is probably some cause for concern and conversation to have with regards to zone limits (maybe). But overall state-wide, birds seem to be doing just fine since there's little cause for concern from others.

I just viewed the recently uploaded NWTF-2022 Spring Hunt Guide.

I was very surprised  at the number of States that had a 1 Bearded or Male Turkey Bag Limit for the Spring Season.

I feel bad for those Turkey Hunters in those States. No State should have a 1 Turkey Bag Limit. Probably  many more Men would be happier with a 9 Day Spring Season with 2 Solid Weekends and a 2 Turkey Limit if things are really that dire. Just my opinion  as a 1 Bird Bag Limit just leads to " some" taking 1 Turkey and then just reporting the 2nd .

Anyway- Here are the 16 States that have a 1 Turkey Limit.

1- Arizona

2-Delaware

3- Indiana

4-Iowa

5-Michigan

6-Minnesota

7-Nebraska

8- Nevada- 1 allowed per year.

9-New Hampshire

10- North Dakota-1 Bearded Turkey

11-Ohio

12-Oklahoma- 1 Male limit Statewide.

13-South Dakota

14- Utah- Bag Limit- 1

15- Wisconsin

16-Wyoming

Alot of Northeastern State Turkey Hunters are very Fortunate.  Hopefully  Populations  improve in all States .
