Weekend on the Susquehanna

Recommended Posts

A buddy and I decided to do it the the old days and launch from Sunbury pa on Friday morning and pickup from shady nook launch in seinsgrove pa on Sunday night.  All while camping on islands along the way.  Had a few big cats on and one flathead get to shore before snapping the line. I’d say he was about 25#.  The snapping turtles were plentiful but not in season. My buddy is a butcher so we had all kinds of venison brats and hotdogs and we did not go hungry!

we plan to return in late August for cats, smallies and turtles since they will be in season.  I can’t turn down a good bowl of soup!

I grew up in that area.  We used to fish down around Port Trevorton every summer.  Back in the 80's smallmouth fishing was incredible.  I haven't fished the Susquehanna in 12 years or so.  Fishing wasn't so good then.  The stretch below Sunbury was off limits for bass for a long time....may still be for all I know.

I don’t think it’s off limits but I was more so Rigged for cats and walleye.  I used to be a contractor for Geisinger in Danville for a few years and I was living in Wayne county pa.  Don’t miss that commute!

ThTs the old BBQ joints in town right?  Thanks good for that hospital or else that place would be a sorry place to reside.

Yeah.  That's the place.  It burned down a few years ago.  They rebuilt it last year in a different location.  They used to have good food.   I bartended at the Selinsgrove location back in the late 90s.  Met my wife there.  Good times.
