I use many set ups depending on current and depth but my all time favorite fluke rod for 1-3oz jigs is a old Kunnan Tournament series with an abu 6500 and 16lb fireline, the other is Loomis GL2 with the same reel and line combo

I used the 6500 for many years.

Only pain was had to really watch the drag washers from getting compressed.

Had power handles on all of them.

after years of hard use they look brand new.

I liked them bait fishing for fluke, but really like jigging bucktails better with the new low profile stuff.

and the drags on the new reels are light years ahead of the 6500.

I still have a Kunnan Spinning rod I used to fluke off the Jetties with

Yes the drags need to be replaced with carbontex washers then any sticky drag problems go away. Simply love the Kunnan tournament series, give a real full bend utilizing the whole blank which helps alot with landing marginally hooked fish which usually can use the weight of the jig to throw it at the surface
