Get a Bell and Carlson synthetic stock, you won't have to worry about the stock cracking.

I had a Belgium Safari Grade 300 WM have the stock crack at the bolt handle like yours when I leaned it up against a tree to take a piss and the wind blew and it hit on the muzzle.  I found the last Magnum stock at Alberta Guns LTD and it cost me $300 in 1988.  Expensive lesson.  Good luck, lefty stocks are hard to come by.

I looked prices aren’t terrible. Would I need to have a gunsmith install it? I looked at my stock and it looks as if there are little brass type pins under the finish? I’m not sure if that’s what holds it to barrel?

Not hard to replace at all . Trigger guard screws and drop plate bolts . Replace scope and bore sight … should be an hour or two …  may want to do it just to keep the original stock in good condition . I’ve replaced a few on Rem 700 .
