First trip of the season

Went to Bentcreek yesterday. Had a tough time starting out the dogs couldn’t get into the thick cover so well. The birds would run and get lost in the matted down tall grasses.

we got a few and took a break and hit it again. This time around the birds started moving and the scent was moving too. We did much better ended with 7 out of 10, one flew off while the dog was on point and we weren’t close enough for a shot, two we never found.

this time of year can be tough with the thick cover and warmer temps but it beats a day working.

Tried a preserve early season and it didn't work out well because of the heavy cover.

Saw my first cock bird in about 3 seasons last week. It flew out of one of my hunting spots across the highway. Haven't hunted pheasants here in about 25 years, might try it this year.
