What kind of bug is this?

There are atleast a dozen on my front stoop. I've never seen them before..

Baby spotted lantern flies. Some have white dots , some don’t.

Boxelder bug nymph.  This is a second generation nymph for the season.  First generation nymphs present usually in June and are reproductive adults right now.

I was hoping you saw and responded to this post..  Reading the info you posted it doesnt seem like they are to damaging. I just planted a bunch of Arborvitaes not far from where I see them and was worried about them damaging them.

More of a nuisance than a threat.  Not terribly hard to kill, but these second generation buggers are the ones that will want to try and come inside your home this fall.

You wouldn’t say that if you have lots of box elder trees on your property. They can kill a lot of them which is an important riparian tree along NJ streams and rivers. But your arborvitae will be fine. It’s the deer that think of arborvitae as candy.
