I don't think I'll ever see another one over 500 lbs.  Gonna see what the woods have to offer me . . .

There some out there, just tough to get them to show their face in daylight. My spots are loaded with bears, but big boys only show at night

How hard is it to get a decent-size bear out of the woods?  That's really the only reason I've never bear hunted, but given 2017 might be the last year for NJ bear hunting, I'm considering giving it a go this fall.

 

If you have no quad, friends, or sled to haul them out with, then be prepared to skin and quarter them out yourself.  There just isn't any other way with a decent sized bear.  Most NJ hunters aren't accustomed to having to skin and quarter like is normal out West on larger game or game shot far from camp in the mountains.  If you aren't sure about how to do that, better have a lot of friends nearby on speed dial.

I had a double size sled last year and 5 guys.  Took a little over an hour, but it was only about a 200 yard drag.  My problems started when I lost the brakes in my SUV on the way to the check in station.

I do have to admit that walking in, dragging buckets of bait on a sled and knowing that there's a decent size mama there with FOUR cubs, well, it does make me just a tad nervous . . .

LOL...valid point. I have a gay cousin and my best buddy's younger brother is gay and a bear. He's a very large and hairy man.

He is still around. Lives in sparta. He is a solid 600....not an exaggeration. Saw him in July
