Cowbirds and cat birds were favorite targets when I was a kid with a BB gun.....just sayin'

Parasitic nesters.  We have a pair here right now.  I watched the female attempt to get into one of my bluebird boxes unsuccessfully recently to try to lay her egg.  The opening was too small for her.

This time of the year I look in every nest I can. Most of the time I find And remove them

Why catbirds?  They are native and eat a ton of insects.  I kill as many cowbirds (although native, not to the east coast), as I can.  Same for house sparrows and starlings.

Gimme a break. I was just a kid and didn't know any better. Easy targets as they didn't move much while they sat there and scowled at you. Sparrows and starlings were on the hit list, too
