mazzgolf
Shocking to come from a California Democrat (his animal rights supporters are not going to like him after this), but I found this interesting and thought I'd share. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-congressman-brings-taxidermied-swamp-creature-into-capitol Quote “She may look cute to some people, but Nellie and her friends are a real menace, and farmers across California’s Central Valley and residents of the Louisiana swamp can tell you how serious a threat these giant swamp rats pose.” ... Harder wants Congress to reauthorize the Nutria Eradication and Control Act of 2003, which permitted the Secretary of the Interior to give financial assistance to Maryland and Louisiana for a program to eradicate nutria and restore marshlands damaged by the creatures. We actually are allowed to trap nutria in NJ, but one of my trappers ed instructors told us he doesn't know of any that have ever been trapped here (I assume we don't have any?). But I guess we have permission in case they do get here and attempt to establish themselves. I read up on nutria and they ravage marshlands that takes many years to recover (if they ever can, unless the nutria population is exterminated). Jim_
In Louisiana, the state pays trappers an incentive … $5 per tail. They cause a lot of damage to the coastal marshes. (I've eaten them while down there. Didn't even know until I finished the meal. lol)
trapperjake
Maryland did a good job of getting rid of them. They let the last ones they caught go with gps tracker in order for them to lead them to anymore. Jim_
ub1243
There were a few nutes that were caught in the past. I think they came up the C+D canal and crossed the Delaware. I don't think they can handle our winters. They are established in maryland and south. CJ3a
I think California ban trapping. I hope the place gets over run with them. I spent most of my money on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.
