The way you approached it was well thought out and done with tact , and you represented us a whole in a gentlemen like , professional manor , using humility and positive judgement as it was intended to be used , as for the event itself , I am left speechless , if you can't tell the difference between a family pet and a coyote , you should not be hunting , plain and simple , you cannot fix ignorance or stupidity , the last thing we need as hunters is act's like such creating seriously negative publicity , as for the dog being on a leash or not , the owner certainly dropped the ball on that , I'm not sure how anyone could try to condone or make excuse's for the actions of clear neglegance on the person's actions ! Just my opinion and each and everyone one of us is entitled to a well thought and logical response ! Thumbs up for trying to comfort a clearly distraught family for the loss of a member of the family !
