  1. If you have some really bad ones you can try using electrolysis, I've had good success with it on old tools rescued after floods.
  2. We went out to the range the other day and shot through about a hundred new shells and now I have a bag full of empty hulls, does anyone want them? They're once fired 20 gauge 7.5 and 8 target loads from Dicks, nothing fancy. I'm just trying to not throw them away. Down the line if we keep this up I'd like to stat reloading but at the moment its not in the cards. I live in Highland Park and would be more than happy to box them up if someone is willing to cover shipping. I'm open to other suggestions on how to responsibly get rid of them.
  3. Good news, I found my release sitting about thirty feet from my stand this morning after the snow melted. Thanks for all the advice and offers. I just finished tying a bright orange paracord lanyard to it so hopefully if it does fall out again it will be easier to find.
  4. I appreciate the great offer, but I've tried out a few wrist releases and did not find them comfortable to shoot.
  5. It does look like it was a Tru Ball from looking at their site, but apparently they do not make the same model. Thanks for the name, I looked into the Scott Exxus, but that is a little outside of my budget at the moment, I'll give AT a look, I hadn't thought of that as an option.
  6. I had been shooting the same thumb release for about 18 years until last week, and now I can't find it or a close replica. It had grooves for all four fingers and a rotating jaw with a selector screw that allowed you to choose from push or pull, not that I ever tried the push option.
  7. So somehow while in the woods yesterday my bow release disappeared from my person. I retraced my steps and had no luck finding it, so I am looking for suggestions on a cheaper release to replace it with? My hunting budget for the season is running low as I picked up a bow and climbing stand last year and I am not looking for super high performance, just something that works and won't crap out on my in the next few years. Or if someone has a metal detector in the Middlesex area and is willing to give a quick lesson and lend it out? Thanks for the suggestions, no rush as deer sightings for me have been few and far between, except when pulling out of my street at 5:30, but I hope to have something in hand by end of next week.
  8. I'll pass on spikes and y bucks, but I would have shot that seven point too, its a nice looking deer and I have only seen 4 in the last month. Even at the end of October I would have shot it, and I was seeing deer regularly then.
  9. Congrats on the successes. I saw nothing in zone 50, but heard 10 shots coming from the same direction in less than 5 minutes. I'm glad I had a big tree behind me in that direction.
  10. Has anyone read the article?
  11. Looking good, I vote for the bear label.
  12. According to the article they buried it under a tarp for two days before coming back to retrieve it. That sounds a lot like they knew they were in the wrong, it also says they admitted to shooting the bear illegally. Time will tell, but assuming the news is doing its job its pretty black and white.
  13. The only negative critique I have heard about them is they chew blades done kind of quickly. But I have never seen one in person.
  14. I use a Sigg that I got for nothing, but for what they apparently cost there are probably better options. It does keep the hot coco warm all day skiing though.
  15. That was the only difference I could find as well. Which makes me think the 500 would be a better option because she is left eye dominant and shoots left, which would make the thumb safety a little easier for her to use. How much work went into swapping the stock out? I was thinking about getting a full size stock as well so we could both shoot it.
