What 223 ammo?

I have dabbled in predator hunting the last couple of seasons with the shotgun but I’m going to give it a solid effort this season. I have a S&W mp15T that is more or less a safe queen I will be using. It has the 1-8 twist 5R barrel.

 

I’m trying to figure what ammo to use. Yes I will go to the range before I go in the field with it. The question is what ammo are you 223 guys using. There are a lot of choices out there and I’m looking for a little help for a starting point.

I shoot 55gr nosler varmageddons and 55gr hornady vmax, not superformance. I have a 16" spikes 1:7 twist.

the hornady v-max bullet is an awesome round I have used it in a .17hmr, .22wmr, .22 hornet and .223 all on fox with great results.

That in .223 55 grain.  It goes "boom" and they go down.

i second that.

i have killed a bunch with my .17hmr and 17gr v-max

i just iron sighted in my SW M+P sport 2 5.56  with 55gr v-max

waiting on my scope and rings to really see what it can do.

 

i shot deer with my .300wsm and 150gr ballistic tips

great round

 

i am really a fan of poly tips.

I have a h and r .223 and black hills 55gr shoot great out of it

Are the poly/ballistic tips ok for predators in NJ? The regs say soft point or hollow point. I know a poly tip is really a hollow point but unsure of how the state stands on them. I know for pistol ammo they are not considered hollow points.

not that i shot any fox or yote with them yet but that's what i bought and plan to use in .223.
