I sat until almost 10, and only had one real wide 6 pass by that got to walk another day... Then I had that same GI situation come on.          

 

Those GIs have saved more than a few bucks over the years.

I am on stand by 3pm. Community scrape stand. Haven't sat this since I killed the 10/14 Longhorn buck. What are the odds of making it 4 NJ bucks in row from this stand? There are some huge new scrapes opened up and I believe the creator is obvious. While I could have tried to sneak into the much better rut stand - the risk was too high. In 3 hours time he may have moved or even be just standing there. The hope here is he will have bred or is about to breed that doe he was on. This would be a logical place for him to head next. Most likely he is locked down with that doe until dark. She is done running - the only thing she has left to do is lose her virginity. It seems the first breed does are coming in first.

Talking about your "Longhorn Buck" are you sending his teeth out to get him aged?

Settled in for the evening myself. Not sure I'll shoot any deer. Still have a turkey tag and I brought a 1/2 dozen blunts for squirrels. Just didn't feel like sitting home with the Rut in full swing despite the fact that I'm tagged out on bucks.

. No - he was only 3.5, he was a healthy 6pt at 2.5 last year. He was just injured.

Quiet in zone 5. Sitting a natural pinch along a horse fence which leads to the Paulinskill river. Cedars on both sides and a big overgrown meadow in front. One button so far.

My buddy is in double ladder stand with his 12 year old son. 400 yards from me. He just hit a 6. Hope he tags his first deer tonight! I have two does feeding at 20 yards. Can't move.
