There are many different species of cicadas that have different life cycles.  Most are Annual Cicadas and have life cycles that range from 2 to 5 years, they are called annual because you hear them every summer.

 

There are species of Periodical Cicadas that have life cycles of 13 and 17 years.

Ok, so aren't peepers supposed to be near some sort of water? This guy was at the top of a ridge with only a vernal pool at least 1/4 mile away. The Delaware is on one side and the Flatbrook is on the other, but it is a steep climb for a little frog like this one.
