Bucksnbows
What they are not telling you is that the fish is a triploid rainbow. That means the eggs were treated in one of two ways to ensure that the fish would not grow reproductive organs, and hence they can grow to enormous sizes like this. In the interest of honest reporting, they should tell us that. Idaho is one of several states that stock triploids. NJ has considered it because they cannot reproduce and they grow larger, faster than normal stocked trout, but we chose not to pursue that route at Pequest. All that fisheries biology mumbo-jumbo aside, that's one heck of a giant bow! https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
BowhunterNJ
Wow, I never even heard of a triploid...learning something new! All I knew was that thing was BIG, and kinda abnormal looking, like a short, stocky, football rainbow!

LittleM
Record-setting weight aside (that is cool), that fish looks like an abomination. Its a wonder it could survive and catch food with that body shape and size. I mean, the term stream-lined was coined by a guy who was watching fish in a current. That fish does not look stream-lined. All in all, triploid or miss-shaped, I'd have liked to see the fight it put up ................. Looks like one of those carp Sugar catches ................... BowhunterNJ
I'm pretty sure if that guy was wearing a leopard print shirt, that trout would have automatically transformed into a carp!

All I knew was that thing was BIG, and kinda abnormal looking, like a short, stocky, football rainbow! One of the tale tell signs of a triploidy trout is the small head compared to giant body size. Here's an article about Idaho's program. Not too many East Coast anglers know much about triploidy in trout. http://www.rmpc.org/files/nwfcc/2009/13-NWFCC_2009_Koenig.pdf https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

Bucksnbows
Great movie, makes me laugh every time! My favorite scene is when they let Norm MacDonald's character just go off during the "man whore convention". https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
