3% tax added on sale of house if you move out of state.  3% more tax added on if the lawn tractor is over $5000, as if that's a luxury.  I take 84 into PA because I'll be damned if I'm going to pay 250% more to cross a toll bridge than someone with an easypass.  I'll cross it coming back since the toll is the other way

Not sure what you're talking about, but .... there is no "exit tax." It's actually a required Advanced Payment ... kinda similar to a Withholding .... against the tax you may owe on Capital Gains on the sale of your house.

it was enacted years ago because people were selling their homes, moving out to state, and then not bothering to pay any taxes owed. Many (most?) people won't actually owe any tax ... though with the recent inflation of home values, that may change ... so they would have to file NJ taxes to get the refund.

Anyway, if you have some money and can afford it ...  NJ does have lots of positives.
