i cant believe they are stocking this fall. why waste all those fish? if the hatchery needs room for other trout then dump the fall stocking into cold deep water, round valley...f the streams this year. they will be dead in hours

Remember, the goal of trout stocking for any state is to provide trout to be caught and creeled.  They want anglers to catch up to their legal limits and kill them for the table.  It is far, far different than managing a wild trout population which our Division is actually fairly good at and getting better.  We had an old saying on the long defunct NJ Trout which was: "Stocked trout are just like Doritos, they'll make more."

 

Haskell_Hunter has it correct, we are in the midst of what is now a 5 year dry spell and what we need to come out of that is slow, steady rains and/or significant snows melting slowly to replenish our aquifers.  If you are a man-made global warming person, then the models where the East gets significantly more rains than previously aren't working.  We haven't had a rainy year since Hurricane Irene was quickly followed by Tropical Storm Lee.  We've been very dry ever since....
