Cransiear
My new Avet sx 5.3MC with St.Croix tidemaster casting rod will be waiting at my house when I get home today. I was thinking about putting some 40lb braid on it(Not sure what brand or if that matters). I have boat poles and surf rods, I bought this for the versitility. I plan on using this for tossing a spoon or jig in the surf or jigging from a boat. Any suggestions on leader material/poundage?
jerseyhunter
Since braid is so thin, why not go with 65lb reason being it's easier to see and work with. Esp tangles.
nmc02
I prefer Jerry Brown Braid, then sufix..........not a powerpro fan. Depending on fish type...........inshore (bass, fluke blue) go with 40 lb. If plan on smaller tuna,
BowhunterNJ
JB is a solid choice for sure. I'm also not a power pro fan, but haven't tried their latest. I only use braid for fluking and sometimes blackfishing. I prefer using Berkeley Fireline for fluke and have used Stren Superbraid in the past for blackfish. Only other experience I have is with Suffix Performance Braid and it's definitely nice, smooth, great for spinning reels. 40# should be plenty, don't think you'll want to battle tuna with an SX unless they are pretty small or maybe Albie fishing. Cransiear
Do you guys use the hollow or non hollow JBB?
BowhunterNJ
You want non-hollow for inshore. I'm not an offshore expert, but pretty sure they use the hollow core for tuna fishing to help with splicing leader.
