The walnuts are good eating, personally I pick them up in buckets and dump them.  Looks to be a bunker year, the tree bordering my yard is loaded with them, if they hit you in the head they hurt.

 

If you want lay them out in your basement or wherever you have room, let them turn black and wrinkled, remove the outer shell, inside you will find the nut, open as you would store bought walnuts and eat, they taste great although there is less nut inside then the cultivated nuts.  I used to give them to a lady at work by the bucket full before she retired and moved south.  She would make walnut pies for Christmas.

yeah they will, the lanape used to boil them to make black dye.
