I have lots of pics of bears in our campsite at Taylors. Had a seasonal site there for nearly 2 decades starting in '85, well before the wolf preserve. Still good friends with the preserve owners, although Dan and Pam Bacon are no longer a part of the preserve for many years now. Dan sadly is no longer with us.

Not sure about '50-50', we had a LOT of regulars! We had this one sow who always had litters of 3. We nicknamed her 'Goldy' after Goldilocks and the 3 bears. She was a regular at our site along with her cubs. She was fairly casual, would allow you to be between her and the cubs so long as you made no overt moves towards the kids. One litter she had consisted of 2 males and a female. By the time the males were adolescents they were nearly 3 feet tall at the shoulder but with long thin bodies and legs. Typical gawky, un-coordinated teenagers, it was pretty damned funny to spook them and watch them trip over their own feet trying to run away!  Then there was the 'alpha' male of the region. Close to 600 lbs in '88, well over 700 by the time he was killed down along Rt 94 in the summer of 97. He used to come down from the top every mid spring during mating season. Never made any real problems, just scared the bejeezus out of the less accustomed campers on a regular basis. ;)

Getting back to the original poster's question, one year we had an adolescent male who initially showed up with one yellow ear tag. He was around for several weeks then we didn't see him for a few days. Next we knew there was a suspiciously similar looking bear with one yellow ear tag in the same ear that showed up in Bucks Co. Pa. being shown on the Philly evening news. They trapped him and reportedly transported him to a release in a 'safe' location. Next day our buddy was back at our site with 2 yellow tags, one in each ear. He stuck around for another week and a half then disappeared again. Several days later he was back on the evening news, back in Bucks Co. This time however they ran him up a tree, tranqued him but missed him as he fell after the dart took effect, and later died of his injuries. Needless to say we never saw him again. And yeah, it was definitely the same bear going by the ear tag numbers as seen on the news.
