Jswany04 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Was checking this gun out at cheyanne today. Very nice gun an I see one in my future. My question is what scope do you guys that already have one recommend?
BHC Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I really like the Leupold VX-2, 3-9x40, for which I have just not on my 220f, but on a few other slug guns. Lifetime warranty, clear clean optics, great customer service from Leupold, and their reputation is 2nd to none
Jswany04 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 How far can you shoot yours accurately?
BHC Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I shot out too 200 yds. I'm dead center. I will never shoot that far here in NJ, maybe out west if I ever go back
Jswany04 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 20 vs 12 what one has the most knock down power for deer and bear?
BHC Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I would say the 12ga has more power, but with today's high tech ammo/slug guns the 20ga. is just outstanding, and think it will take down deer/black bear just as good if not better then the 12ga. Friend of mine took just under a 400 # bear this past season at 60 yds with the savage 220f, I myself have taken a few deer in the last few years with a 20ga all at 80 plus yards, all dropping in their tracks, including the one in my avatar. The 20ga. slug guns are lighter in weight, alot less recoil which doesn't cause flinching which will cause accuracy problems, the ammo (remington accutip 3") is 260 gr., at 1900 fps, more then enough for game
Jswany04 Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 Surprised not more people on this site have this shotgun. Would love to see your savage 220f setup. Lets see all your guys guns.
BHC Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 if you or anyone want a dedicated slug gun only, and don't want to spend a lot of money I would say buy the Savage 220f, want to spend a little less then the H&R. I have both, and love them, the Savage is a tad better then the H&R
Cousin Brown Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I got it & like it a lot (20Gauge). Very accurate with the Remington Accutips in 3". It does not like any other slug. It can be a very picky gun on what it wants to shoot. The H&R is just as accurate & likes multiple type slugs. Here is my Savage 220, 3shot group @ 100 yds using the 3'' Accutips. (Shooting for groups). Treestands don't demand, treestands don't complain, treestands simply ask me to sit down and listen.
BHC Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 my friend has the savage 220f and sighted in with the Remington AccuTip 2-3/4" and liked the groups, I let him borrow a few boxes of the 3" and his groups got better...he is sold on the AccuTip 3"
Jason1 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I have a 220f and love it. I topped it with a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 in matching camo. Great setup!! If you look at the ballistic charts between the 12 & 20 you'll be surprised how little you gain going with the 12. " Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, it's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill
Cousin Brown Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 3" Accutips get hard to find at times...If you shoot them & find them, stock up. Treestands don't demand, treestands don't complain, treestands simply ask me to sit down and listen.
Pathman Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Love this gun, easy to shoot in the 20 ga. and with the Zeiss scope is more than adequate for anything in NJ.
