Need fireplace repair

I have a metal fire box.

The smoke chamber has rotted away. The entire fireplace and chimney are masonry. I want to know if I should go back to all masonry or convert to gas fireplace. I'm near Freehold New Jersey any help would be appreciated thank you.

You can maintain your masonry fireplace with either insert.

I had a Napoleon direct vent gas insert installed inside an existing metal Heatilator fireplace.

Thanks guys I have a wood stove already this fireplace is just for ambiance. I talked to a guy he said he can fill the outside of the metal Firebox with cement and I can keep using it as a wood burning fireplace
