Turkey Dogs

Hunting Turkeys with Dogs is a new discovery for me. I had never heard of it before today.

I looked up the NJ regs and it says its legal in the fall. I dont turkey hunt, and dont have a dog. Just thought this was interesting.

How is it done, the dog breaks up the flocks, they you hope the scattered birds will come back to where you flushed them? Anyone on here using a dog for turkeys?

In the fall, dogs are used to break up the flocks. Then you sit and make Kee Kee calls to try to attract the birds back to their original location where they typically go to re-group (turkeys will normally make the kee-kee calls saying, "Hey, where is everyone? We need to regroup!" :)

(but if the birds happen to all flush in basically the same direction, it's less successful since they all just go together to some other place. The objective is to scatter them in all directions so they are all split up, making them all want to find out where everyone else is).
