Scope of Eligibility: Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.

Description: Under the supervision of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisory official in the Fish and Wildlife Program, Department of Environmental Protection, performs various duties involved in fish and game propagation, growth and health maintenance, resource inventories, fish and game distribution, user surveys, habitat management and performs routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds; does other related work as required.

Specific to the Position: Appointees will assist with marine field sampling, collecting biological samples, identifying and enumerating marine finfish and shellfish specimens, and proofreading and entering data; operate and maintain marine sampling equipment, vessels and vehicles needed for research and field sample collection; maintain and repair buildings, grounds, and facilities as necessary and may take the lead over part-time and/or temporary employees. Will be required to operate and trailer vessels to work sites and will be required to interpret maps, diagrams, and nautical charts. Since much of the appointees’ time will be spent on the marine waters, they will have to become knowledgeable of the waters from Sandy Hook to Cape May.

Preferred Skill Set: Good working knowledge of vehicle and vessel handling and maintenance; the ability to use GPS in the field and safely plot courses.

Requirements

Experience: One (1) year of experience in routine wildlife or fisheries management activities including habitat developments, maintenance, propagation and/or conservation.

SPECIAL NOTE: Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.

License: Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and applicable
endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.

Appointee may be required to obtain a valid New Jersey boat operator’s license.

Other: Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act”.

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
