February 19, 2014 Dear New Jersey Summer Flounder Permit Holder: New Jersey Summer Flounder Dealer: As determined by New Jersey’s commercial summer flounder landing records, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife anticipates the Season 1, January-February by-catch quota of 47,109 pounds of summer flounder will be landed by Sunday, February 23, 2014. Based upon this information and pursuant to N.J.A.C. 7:25-18.12(i), the New Jersey Season 1 by-catch summer flounder fishery will be closed as of 6:00 PM (Sunday), February 23, 2014. Effective 6:01 PM, February 23, 2014 no vessel shall land or possess nor shall any dealer accept any summer flounder. The 2014 Season 2 (March-April) by-catch fishery will open on March 1 with a by-catch trip limit of 200 pounds. By-catch landings may not exceed ten percent, by weight, of all species landed and sold. The 2014 Season 2 (March-April) directed summer flounder fishery will open on Sunday, March 2, 2014 with a 2,000 pound trip limit with a maximum of two landings per week.
