It's been a slow fall. I've had many nice bucks on camera and they have all been nocturnal until the last week. Last week, I had a tough day. I shot a 7 with my bow. It looked beautiful. There was blood on the arrow and a good blood trail that went dry. I followed the trail for over a mile, and lost the buck in a swamp. I'm convinced it lives and that my arrow passed through no mans land, hitting no organs. So much for my Thunderhead doing its job... I searched for hours and even attempted to call in dogs. I've never had a terrific shot not kill a deer. I set up cameras. I have the buck on camera again. He lived. But has gone nocturnal again. My favorite nocturnal deer, a big 8, has yet to show his face - until... This morning! He came in close and at ten yards, I let him have it. He ran 30 yards and fell. This time my Thunderhead shredded his heart into pieces. Brought the kids into help me with the long difficult uphill drag. Happy Thanksgiving!
