NJDFW Posted April 19, 2023 Share Posted April 19, 2023 The Endangered and Nongame Species Advisory Committee (ENSAC) is currently seeking applicants for one open seat on the Committee, in the “public-at-large” position. Applicants interested in serving in this seat should have an interest in, and be supportive of, the mission of the Endangered and Nongame Species Program with regard to habitat management, policy, outreach and/or education. The selected candidate would ideally possess a degree in biology or environmental sciences and have experience with habitat management, constituent outreach, and/or managing issues related to agency relevancy or the intersect between wildlife conservation and diversity, equity, inclusivity and justice. ENSAC serves an advisory role to NJDEP Fish and Wildlife and the NJDEP Commissioner in matters pertaining to the management and protection of the State’s endangered and nongame wildlife. Formed in 1974 through an act of NJ state legislation, the Committee’s responsibilities include: Recommending to the NJDEP Commissioner status changes to the State’s endangeredspecies and indigenous nongame wildlife lists.Providing recommendations on policy and decision-making regarding the protection andmanagement of species considered state endangered, threatened, or special concern, orthat have been classified as “Species of Greatest Conservation Need” (SGCN) in thestate’s Wildlife Action Plan.Reviewing and commenting on scientific data as it pertains to the management ofnongame wildlife. Consistent with the regulations governing its formation (N.J.A.C. 7:25-4.18), the Committee consists of 11 members concerned with and supportive of the Endangered and Nongame Species Program who are appointed by the NJDEP Commissioner after consultation with the Committee. Four members come from the research and academic community, one is a veterinarian or public health professional, three represent nonprofit organizations with strong interest in nongame wildlife, and three are appointed from the public-at-large. Committee members serve a four-year term and are expected to attend bi-monthly meetings (six per year) to receive updates on state and regional management initiatives and make recommendations on new and revised management policy, projects or regulations. Members are term-limited and may serve no more than two terms. Interested parties should submit their resume for consideration to ENSACapplications@dep.nj.gov by May 19, 2023. Candidates meeting the qualifications noted above should document their knowledge and experience with the management, policy, biology and/or issues related to the conservation of nongame wildlife.
