2023 Recreational Fishing Regulations for Black Sea Bass and Scup

In order to remain within federally mandated recreational harvest limits, the NJ Marine Fisheries Council has implemented new 2023 recreational management measures for both black sea bass and scup as signed by DEP Commissioner LaTourette on March 31, 2023. 

Black Sea Bass

  • 12.5 inch minimum size limit for all open seasons
  • May 17 – June 19, 10-fish possession limit
  • July 1 – August 31, 1-fish possession limit
  • October 1 – October 31, 10-fish possession limit
  • November 1 – December 31, 15-fish possession limit

Scup

  • 10 inch minimum size limit
  • 30 fish possession limit
  • Open season from August 1 to December 31
