I only got a couple of responses to my email.  I'll check to see how my reps voted and then flame any one that supported it.  I'll gently remind them of all of the groups I'm a member of and associated with that vote as a block on important issues like these.

Holy crap, passed 51-10-11!  Yikes!

The leghold trap ban resolution passed the full New Jersey Assembly today! Thanks to APLNJ's Sue Russell, Angi Metler, Doreen Frega, Doris Lin, Jay Lassiter and Janine Motta and Brian Hackett from HSUS for lobbying today. Great work! Next step... the Senate.

It passed, wasnt even close. Now on to the senate. Simple to send an email..
The encapsulating trap or commonly known as the Dog Proof Trap (DP trap) is not the same type trap as the steel jawed leg hold trap that was banned in 1984. This trap has its own classification in the North American trap standards (BMP) and The International Trap Standards (ISO) The DP Trap in fact would have been an alternate trap for raccoons if it was developed at that time of the legislation to be implemented as stated in the 1984 Statue 23:4-22.4 portion of the law banning the steel jawed leg hold trap. The DP Trap was not in use at the time of the 1984 ban so there for could not be adopted to fulfill the total law. This trap fills all the criteria of the law as the adopted trap and the NJ Fish and Wildlife Council acted in accordance of the law both in the trap and adopting an alternative trap. I oppose this bill and hope you will do the same. I am highly concerend about the possibility of increased rabies. The DP trap is a very effective method of removing racoons.

Email sent to all the senators:

I am highly concerned about the possibility of increased rabies. The DP trap is a very effective method of removing raccoons.

The legislature is being manipulated by a vocal minority of out-of-mainstream animal rights activists and their ideology is threatening the management of our wildlife population. They are doing the same thing with the bear hunt - they reject scientifically based, peer-reviewed studies and documents that show the bear hunt to be the most effective way to manage them. I ask you reject their bill to ban the bear hunt as well.

We need our trappers and hunters! Please support them! And WE VOTE.

Now that the DP trap ban passed the assembly, can the adults please stand up and reject this silliness in the Senate?

Thank you.

Rabid coon attacked a child in bordentown twp yesterday. They posted it on police department website. Maybe attach to your email .

I'm sending these to the Senators. They want to play all nice with the animal rights loonies? Well, they can have these problems grow on their watch then - then again, these people don't even live with the consequences of their votes - they live in cities and have no idea the problems they cause:

This week:

This past January (take a look at the wounds on the boy):

I just sent this to all the senators - feel free to copy-n-paste...

Just this week, a boy was attacked by a rabid raccoon (see link below to police department notice). Back in January, another boy was attacked by another raccoon. Take a look at the bloody wounds on that little boy from January (see link below) and see what kind of injuries can occur if we don't manage our wildlife population correctly.

You want more of this on your hands? Then keep listening to the anti-science animal rights activists who think raccoons are nothing more than cuddly animals they see in Disney movies. These out-of-mainstream minority activists' must not sway your vote with their ideological rhetoric that has no basis in reality.

http://mansfieldpd.org/raccoon-that-attacked-child-tests-positive-for-rabies-102116

"On Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 a raccoon attacked a small child . . . playing in the yard when the animal attacked without provocation. . . . The [Mansfield] township’s animal control officer submitted the raccoon to the lab for testing, which revealed it had rabies."

http://abc7ny.com/news/raccoon-attacks-6-year-old-boy-on-way-to-school-in-elmwood-park/1175777/

"A 6-year-old boy was attacked by a raccoon in New Jersey Wednesday [January, 2016] morning. Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said the police received a call at 8:41 a.m. regarding a woman screaming. . . . they found the young child who had been attacked. . . . Witnesses say the raccoon ran up from behind, jumped on Aryan, latched onto his face and began biting and scratching him."

THIS is why we need you to support NJ trappers and hunters and THIS is why we need the best tools available, and THAT includes the DP trap (and a bear hunt - or should I also remind you of the death of the Rutgers student by bear mauling last year?)

Thank you.

My son attends the middle school that is within a half mile of the Bordentown / Mansfield attack. And they are trying to take away the best tool we have to contain the raccoon population to a safe level to prevent disease and improve the overall health of these animals. Please understand the balance that needs to be upheld in regards to "carrying capacity". When this is out of balance you have an uprising of disease such as rabies and mange. So please oppose this.

 Thank you for your time,

This is my letter took some from all and some of my own.
