I'll start with the venomous snake pics, in a bit, soon as I get to it, but their gonna be pics you all already saw ..................

Northern ringneck.  Found throughout the state, they are small and very docile.

Another picture of the Northern water snake.  Whenever someone tells me that they saw a copperhead I ask if they were near water, they almost always were.

great posts. ribbon snake is beautiful. you guys are making me want to go look for snakes. i was always hesitate because of my lack of knowledge.

Another yellow phase rattler, and like Little M said, they really are quite docile.

All species of snakes are protected by the Endangered and Nongame Species Act.  Basically, all species of snakes (all wildlife) are protected from being taken.  "Taken" has a very broad definition.  I am allowed to pick up the non-venomous species by hand and venomous species by stick (not tongs as tongs are not acceptable) via a number of State and Federal Permits I am issued annually and for which I had to jump thru a million hoops, some on fire, for.

Another ribbon snake, often mistaken for the garter snake.  This one was not "taken", it was relocated, from the path of my mower to a safer part of the yard.
