NJfarmgirl
Welcome to the annual NJ Woods & Water Spring Turkey Contest - 2015!!! Hi everyone! It's that time again! Please join us in the 3rd Annual Turkey Contest. The rules would be as follows (similar to previous years): NJ Birds Only! One bird per contestant. This bird may be upgraded to a bigger bird at any time during the contest. The contest will begin on Monday, April 20th (although I won’t exclude youth day April 18th, if any youths want to join the contest as well) The contest will end on Friday, May 22nd. NO birds will be allowed entry after Saturday, May 23rd (giving enough time for people to get to their computers to submit an entry and what not). Please sign up here in this thread by April 10th if you're interested in participating, and place your vote (see the above poll) if you would like it to be scored as teams only, individual only, or both teams and individual. Majority rules! We only have 26 days, so time is of the essence! Thanks! And good luck to all this season -Melissa PS...Also, it would be lovely to collect some donations so we can give out generous prizes (if you are able to!). BowhunterNJ added a DONATE button on the top right of the main page under the Turkey Contest Scoreboard. You can also submit via Paypal directly by using the Send Money options to admin@njwoodsandwater.com. Thank you! NJfarmgirl
Great! We've got some participants! Just need your name and vote in order to sign up. There's no entry fee. Just a request for donations, so that there can be some sort of prize/giveaway by the end of the season. Just trying to get a feel if ppl prefer to have a solo contest, want only to be on teams, or have both like last year. Once we get a final count, I'll start a new topic outlining the rules and where ppl can post their pix. Very much along the lines of last year's turkey contest. Thanks again! BowhunterNJ
Alright, to spice things up I kicked back in all the donations from the deer contest, so we're up to $180 in prizes! Join on up and have some fun! Matty
Matty
Current roster: NjfarmgirlDrop TineResquecfd Matty I knew we were late in starting this year, but I just checked and we are over a month behind previous years and have less than a month before the season. Because of that, I think we need to play it by ear as far as teams vs individual. If we can get enough signups, I say we do just teams and a small prize for biggest bird. IF the signup list isn't long enough we may be forced to do individual. Not a big deal. I was thinking maybe adjust the scoring slightly like the deer contest so we have picture credits in addition to bird score. Also possibly allow NY and PA birds still. I don't think anyone has entered any in the past, that's why I thought to remove it, but it doesn't hurt anything and may help participation, so I would suggest adding that back in. I also think droptine and markmartinfan should not be allowed to hunt together, just for the protection of the propagation of eastern turkeys. The State may actually want to look into safeguarding the future of wild turkey populations by separating them. “I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear
Matty
By the way members that are either new to turkey hunting or might not get out a lot should sign up too. It's all just meant to be fun and you may win something. Only takes a few seconds out in the woods for everything to turn from dead silence to success. Your chances are better here than winning the lottery. (of course the payout is just a tad less) lol I noticed the list of leftover permits too, looks like every zone/period had at least a few leftovers (though I only quickly scanned it)...So if you're in one of those coveted zones but don't have a permit yet, you may still have a chance if you log in Monday to order. I just hope I can get a permit for my zone, only 500 permits leftover. lol Edited March 27, 2015 by Matty “I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. Haha, maybe they should be limited to traditional bows only...or maybe an atlatl!
