04/12/2014 - NJ Trout Fishing

Recommended Posts

Just a few pics from yesterday!

After the TU cleanup on the Musky, we hit the river for a little fly fishing fun.

My lone rainbow on the afternoon...taken on a prince nymph.

Absolutely beautiful day!

Brian, having fun...see those trees do jump right in front of your backcast!!! haha

Looking for an id on this one! Didn't see any rising but these were coming off in the mix of hatches. Brian identified it as a Male Ephemerella subvaria (Hendrickson) Mayfly Dun!

Nice view downstream...

And upstream...

Really nice day on the river and just to be outside!

And great job by Trout Unlimited overall in their riverside cleanup efforts!

The RVTU took an absolute ton of garbage ranging from sofas to TVS to tires to bottles and cans to bags and papers.

The riverside areas and parking lots along the Musky look a whole lot better now!

Matt - I was just checking to see what bugs might be on that tree.  In no way were my flies caught up in it!

Nice ones there Palawman30! I've never caught a palomino myself, wild!

Suuuuuure Brian...I thought maybe the branch tangle was intentional so you could get a closer look and compare your fly to the real ones up there! :)

Matt

My brother is a trout fishing fiend... He's caught well over 100 paliminos but I think they just stock a lot here. He's actually won quite a bit of money doing the trout derby circuit. I taught the boy how to fish and now he kicks my ass....lol

Many PA hatcheries raise palamino rainbows and that state stocks a lot of them.

Yeah they do put quite a few in here...I think I remember a guy from pfbc telling me a few years ago it was a 100- 1 ratio between regular stockies and palaminos. I will say they definitly put the bigger brood trout in the mountain streams.
