I call BS - "Bush" is not an Italian name...   Unless it was changed from "Buscemi" somewhere along the way   :tooth:

I guess you did not read the initial post, the family name was BUSCIO changed by some overpaid Government employee at Ellis Island in 1866 from British decent.

Grandparents on my mother's side were from northern Italy.  Family still there.

Government is not getting my DNA, but my sister had it done.

If the government wants your DNA I am sure they already have it, along with your fingerprints, a scan of your retina and a detailed map of the wrinkles on  your balls. It's over, privacy lost.

The whole "name change at Ellis Island" thing is largely a myth:

The more likely explanation is that it was changed by your ancestors themselves to sound more Anglo and less Southern European/Italian:

I agree, especially if you were in the military within the last 15 years, they got it all and for all who think they are safe, the US government had a hack about 6 years ago that got an unknown number military and government employees personal data.  Nothing is  safe.

When my kids were in grade school, one of their school projects was our family history of when we came through Ellis Island. Their teachers were surprised to find out that my ancestors came here in 1624 from England long before Ellis Island. They were supposed to sail to Virginia but, a storm sent them to Gloucester Massachusetts. There's actually a book written about my ancestors.

In part true however many names were misspelled by governments employees working the desk to name close but not correct. I can trace ours back to birth records from the town of San Felse, passports and ship manifests. Rinaldo became Granaldi and Buscio became Bush, the workers were pushing so many through so fast it happened.

If the Gov't wants your DNA, they will get it. They won't wait around for you to take a 99 dollar DNA test that your ordered from a commercial.

Who said anything about the government?  These tests are not offered by any government-they are offered by private corporations who can quite literally do whatever they want with it once they have it.
