Mice can get in anywhere.  Aluminum flashing pop riveted to close any gaps may help.  The water bucket trap looks good too.  I've used the old style el cheapo spring traps and wired a bit of bacon to the bait holder and they can't seem to resist it.  They travel in pairs so set traps accordingly.  Good luck.
