Food Plot 1 week growth

Recommended Posts

So this year we worked an acre section of logging road. This ground has never seen anything but leaves in 30 years plus. Right at an acre worth of trail. We pulled more boulders outta he ground then you could imagine. Soil tested back in early spring. Got all the proper soil amendments in shortly after. Last Saturday we ran the tractor and the rake across the area after a few weeks worth of repeated spraying of roundup. We a little storm Saturday and some random passing showers this week and it’s off to a good start. Didn’t think it would take this quickly. Mix of several clover and chicory varieties along with brassica and winter rye. Should fill in nicely in the upcoming weeks.

I'm seeing clover already in a round up ready Merit seed plot at nearly one week.

This is also Merit seed. And a little Whitetail Institute fusion. I’m very impressed for one week. Especially since it’s spotty sun at best.

Looks good. Trails are the most difficult.

Low sunlight, poor soil etc.

Make sure  to go in with a leaf blower after leaf drop and again in the early spring to remove leaves or they will smother your planting.

We had great weather to get the plots going. Hopefully we keep getting adequate moisture.

We are getting morning dew which helps

Dont put round up on those brassicas or you will kill them.  They are not immune to round up

It’s hard but when you take the right steps, pick the right seed, and put in the sweat equity it’s worth it. This first year is more geared toward soil health and getting organic matter in place. I have  50/50 mix of perennial and annual to try and get some good thatch developed to help with moisture and erosion on the slopes
