Who Here Makes Mock Scrapes?

Recommended Posts

Like the title says and what products do you use?

I use to make them years ago, then stopped, yesterday I decided to make one and I placed a cam on it, I used the following products, hopefully it works, I have nothing to loose

Scent Dripper with: http://www.wildlife.com/Hunting-Deer-Scents-and-Lures-Products-Details.php?Active-Scrape-3

Rack Rub: http://www.codebluescents.com/productdetail.aspx?id=OA1228

Scrape Generator:  http://buckbomb.com/catalog/product/accessories_scrape_generator

I also have Golden Scrape, but was told to use it 3rd week of October in a scent dripper:  http://www.wildlife.com/Hunting-Deer-Scents-and-Lures-Products-Details.php?Golden-Scrape-12

Next week when I get done with the day's hunt I will swap out the SD card.

Also will be using next week Ever Clam: http://conquestscents.com/shop/evercalm/ever-calm-deer-herd-scent-stick-2-5-oz-2/

Around October 10th I start using Rutting Buck:  http://conquestscents.com/shop/hunting-scents/deer-hunting/

And once the rut gets near I use VS-1: http://conquestscents.com/shop/hunting-scents/vs-1-estrus-whitetail-stick-2-5-oz/

I will be this year, but usually hunt near one or freshen up an old one.  Don't remember what I used but it's from Bob Kirchner.

of course you don't need to make any, the deer can't paw out the scrapes cause they are missing their legs

I just started to. I"m using pual pollicks preorbital on the the licking branch and me-pee in the scrape. I think the scrape might be a better tool then corn in front of the camera for the early season for getting pics of what bucks are around. I think you will get some good activity at your set up.

I hope so Rob. The area I hunt is public land but I'm like 3 miles in from the road and have access to private land but can't hunt it. I put out my Bushnell Trophy Cam (2010 first time using it) over the scrape. The area holds some very good bucks, but the area is so vast and deep with little pressure until shotgun week, the deer just don't get pushed around, and either I need a hot doe to draw the bigger bucks out which happend in 2005 and I scored, or I need some sort of edge and the mock scrape just maybe the ticket.

I've made a bunch of mock scrapes over the years and set cams on them.  Honestly, outside of using a timed dripper for the sake of repeated freshening, I'd recommend making it a DIY step whenever you frequent the location.  I've had plenty of deer and even some nice bucks come by and check it out repeatedly with no indication of them being spooked.
