Climber Recommendation

Recommended Posts

I used Chipewa wedg loc for years but now the millennium stands have similar system, only much better with much more comfortable stands.
BTW C.Wedge lock with four sticks, I use lone wolf, is lighter than most climbers.
I have lone wolf's too as a backup.
I have a millennium stand too eith the receiver- just won it at a beefsteak this past April so I haven't used it yet.. I'm not thrilled with the platform. Looks uncomfortable to stand on and allows mud on your boots to fall through making noise at the worst time lol)

I've don't own the viper.   But, I've never heard anything but good things about the Summits.  I use the TreeWalker.  http://www.treewalkertreestands.com/.
I love the treewalker.  Very comfortable, easy to climb, large platform, rock solid on a tree...really feel safe with it, pretty light (18-19 lbs) can go around really big trees (up to 26 inch diameter which is a huge tree), packs up very easy.  Its $100 more than the viper though.... Would definitely recommend the TreeWalker, but as I said I've only heard good things about the Summit.

I second the Treewalker. It is much more stable than any summit, larger for the weight, most are lighter than the summit, you sit higher in the top section so there is less movement to stand and the top section is lower than the summit so that you are less likely to hit the stand with your bottom limb or cam.

Thanks to all for your comments. It's been a long time since I've been "up a tree" hunting. The kids say I'm too old to even clean the gutters on my house...lol.  My tree stand used to be a small metal one that attached to the tree with a chain. I used to carry my telephone pole climbing spikes in with me to get up and down.  Now I just find a dead fall ON THE GROUND to hunt. That's why I asked for comments. The stand he's currently using is an OLD CHEAP NOISY HEAVY climber that he's had for more than 15 years. He is not one to hunt where everyone else is.....he goes in until he feels he's alone in the wilderness.  I follow him half way (it's a fatherly thing), find a spot, hunt my heart out, and usually wait for him to return.

I've settled on the Viper SD.  Will be placing the order today. Once again....THANKS for ALL replies.

Gonna get my son (40) a new climber for his Birthday. Looking at the Summit Viper SD. Weighs only 20 lbs and I'm sure it will be BETTER than what he is currently using. Any pros or cons would be appreciated. I've got a couple of weeks to get it.

Thanks

Bob....get the one you picked. In my opinion the best. Easy to use & comfortable. Only other advice may be to get the titan if he is a big guy. Otherwise, I think Summit are best on market. I had many others, including lone wolf....light weight, but not as easy to climb w & no where near as comfortable as Summit. Stick w your gut. SUMMIT
