Trapper Coming to my Land

Recommended Posts

I own a property up near Scranton Pa, and was wondering if anyone has heard of a trapper coming to a property managed for deer and trapping there. Not an exterminator that is paid, but since pelts are sold, and the land is free to use, the trapper can use it to get some more pelts and the landowner gets a better deer property. I don't know any trappers, but was wondering if this ever happens and if anyone knows anyone near there.

If yotes are a problem shoot them. Pa has no closed season. People would love an opportunity to call while in the off season

We had the same trapper trap our farm in Potter County for over 30 years before we sold our share a year or so ago.  I would call him once a year to ask him to pull his sets for an annual 4 day grouse and woodcock hunt so the dogs didn't find all his fox sets and ask him how the last season was and how it was going so far in the new season.  He had 185 acres of excellent trapping and we had more grouse and woodcock and turkeys, a win-win.  No money exchanged hands, we both got what we wanted without money exchange.  Our camp was primarily our deer camp, but we did spring turkey and fall small game in addition to rifle for deer.

And that's why people are afraid to let us trap their land. Out of all the places I trap I hunt one but hunted there since I was a kid

This was also the sense I got when a couple years ago I went farm-to-farm asking if I could hunt groundhogs. Some farmers looked at me funny - I had to say to some "I won't ask to deer hunt or anything else, I just want to hunt groundhogs".

In the end, no one let me hunt their farm - I know it wasn't THE  reason why I wasn't allowed, but I suspect for a least a couple, it was "a" reason - I just got a sense they didn't want to have to deal with a guy who later will ask to hunt other game.
