Jigs Question

You want the jig as vertical as possible. Many areas that hold bigger fluke have heavy current.

The only way you could fish 3 OZ in areas I fish would be to be constantly casting downwind of the boat and working it back to the boat as you drift towards it.

I fish everything from 3-16 OZ .

with a 5 OZ being the most common used

Ambrose channel when its ripping its tough to even hold with a 12 OZ, yet at other times a 2 can hold, its all based on current and drift conditions .

Im fishing 14/17 # line on different set ups.

going down to 10 # can drop the jig by about an ounce at times, but doesn't hold up as well

That is exactly how I fish! I hardly ever fish the drift side...

Casting away from the boat and working it back is extemelly hard to do when fishing very rough areas . Fishing between rubble piles etc where you need to swim the jig above and around structure .

Big fluke like staying right against the best nastiest cover .

Thats why a absolute vertical presentation is needed .

One person always watching the finder to tell the rest there is an obstruction coming

Bigger the bait the bigger the fish. More feeling and faster return to the Zone.  But What does a Live Bait guy Know

I used to think  a live snapper or peanut was fluke magic.

then I learned to bucktail the right way.

Big fish love bucktail candy
