Island Beach State Park

Recommended Posts

I took a ride today with may camer to Island Beach State Parko see what I could catch and to check on surf fishing. Normally it would be a bike ride but recovering from elbow surgery this was not an option.
I walked to the bay side first and the Island was full of migrants. Unfortunately 3o  minutes into my walk a huge storm rolled in and I just made it back to my truck before all hell broke lose. Not all was lost as I ended up at Sawmill for some clams and beer. Never made it to the Ocean side, so I can't tell yo anything about fishing, but in 30 minutes on bay side I I encountered several migrants with only few pictures.
First it was Northern Parula, a Warbler I haven't seen in two years. He would not come out so the pictures are not too goof. Common Yellowthroats were every where. Then I ran into Magnolia Warbler. Glossy Ibis was flying around in great numbers, the close up is not from today. I was hoping to see a tricolor Heron but could only find a Little Blue Heron, again the close up is not from today. There were also Cedar Waxwings but they also would not give me any good shot and the close up is from Sandy Hook. Ther had to be 20 Snowy Egrets in the water.

Great shots. Have you ever walked to the beach on 9 Gun Battery trail? It takes you on the Bataan Death March through deep sand, but you have a freshwater pond on one side and a saltwater pond on the other side of the trail near the beach. The bird species diversity is incredible.

I have a lot of my life list birds from the Hook.
