I’ll second Rutt’s Hut (ask for a couple of rippers) and the Walpack Inn as good places.

I think we do need a food stop section on this site for cool holes in the wall (of the non-glory hole variety) in addition to the more upscale ones.

Anyone with me on this?

I would add Forno's on Ferry St in Newark.

I would also add the Cuban place(I forget the name) on Main st in Hackensack or just about any Cuban place especially if they have "rabo". Rabo is oxtails cooked Cuban style.

I would replace Rutt's hut with Libby's on McBride ave in Paterson. That's just a regional preference they are both good. (regional in the sense of Paterson vs. Clifton)

Another would be Evelyns in Belmar. It's the only place I ever had bluefish and liked it.

There is also an Irish place in Belmar (on RT 35 I think) I cannot remember the name.

Speaking of "down the shore" I would add the sausage, peppers & onions on the boardwalk in Seaside.

Even though it is no longer in existence let's not forget the Clam Broth house in Hoboken.

It's one of my favorite restaurants, great food, good portions and not that expensive. You have to get there early this time of year there is always a wait!

If you are feeling brave just take Bloomfield Ave down into Newark and there is JJ's hot dog truck near Branch Brook Park. Best truck dogs around.

I remember back in the  70's when the war was finally over he gave away the dogs to everyone.  I was shacking up on Lake st.  and was frequent customer.

Yeah they been around a long time. I used to go there a lot in the late 80's early 90's when I hung out on the Ave chasing girls.
