Female Hendrickson dun sub-imago to be exact.  Ephemerella subvaria is the Latin.  Size 14 to 15 in NJ, and 12 to 14 in the Catskills.  Their spinners are falling each calm evening right now.  Fish the hatch that starts as early as 2:30 pm until it ends which is often as the spinners begin to drop to the water's surface.  Thanks for sharing the photos!

So true and that is something I try to teach newbies - just look at size and color and don't worry about the Latin names.  A size 14 or 16 Adams dry fly will work fine for this hatch, at least here in NJ.

What does "spinners" mean? Also does Dan still work at Shannons?

A spinner is a dead insect that has already mated. A "spinner fall" usually occur near or at  dusk although I have found spinners on the water early in the morning that apparently "fell" the night before and floated downstream overnight. Trout go into a feeding frenzy for spinners.
