Upland bird question

Recommended Posts

I’ve got a black lab Gunner.... my best friend, but he’s 10 and starting to slow down. Originally bought him for some waterfowl hunting. Didn’t work with too much so he became my upland dog. We’re gonna get a new pup next year so I was curious on people’s thoughts for a new bird dog? Gunners not going anywhere, but moms being more protective and he doesn’t leave the yard much.  Here’s a pic of him chilling with his buddy!

Ok one vote for Brittany

Two votes for Britts.  I think they are the best of both field and family when combined.  If all you want is the best nose in the business, get a Pointer.  Second would be an English Setter from a nose standpoint.  But if you want a nose not far off those breeds but a fantastic family pet, the Brittany is a great choice.

If you are going to hunt ducks, geese, and upland - German Short Hair Pointer, Pudelpointer, Wirehair Pointer, Wirehair Griffon

If you are going just upland and sometimes geese or ducks American Brittany

If you are going to train then I recommend Del Val NAVHDA.

Before purchasing a dog search and go and watch the mother and father. It will tell you a lot about the off spring.

I have a Brittany and love him like one of my kids. He is a great dog.

I have seen some of the best short hairs around through NAVHDA.

Always remember, the cheapest part is the dog.
