Hold over trout streams near central Jersey

I know the Ramapo, Flatt brook and pequest, but all of them I far drives for me and I just want something local to nymph... (Catch and release)

 

Anyone have any places they wouldn't mind sharing?

Never fished Tom's river for trout I know if a place up in Princeton stony brook that area holds fish

Not sure what area you're in but the S. Br. Raritan is a good north/central Jersey stream with a couple of good C&R sections and a lot of other good water both holdover and wild. Also check out the list of Wild Trout Streams for what may be near to your area.

First you should state where you live and how far you wish to drive. Forget the Stoney Brook, it gets way to hot for trout to survive past June. South Branch of Raritan has plenty of holdover water and is only 10 miles further.

Me and the boy tried the Metedoconk Saturday, but we were trying to catch suckers, ...got a few, and no trout catches....but we only tried a few deep holes.  If we covered more of the stream I bet we could have had some encounters with a few trout.  I caught a 2.5 lb brookie in February there a few yrs ago
