BowhunterNJ
Different strokes for different folks. Some people may have the expendable income and value this type of club highly. Maybe they want to fish every day and have an exclusive, "away from the rest of the world" experience while they're at it. Plenty of people making A LOT of money in nearby NYC (and NJ/PA) who are interested in fly fishing, trap shooting, and the overall "resort/guide like" destination and experience a place like that offers (rarely) here in NJ. Those same people may already be going to AK annually, and on elk/dall sheep/deer/bear/etc hunts annually. Wish I could do it, but that's out of the cards for me (and I'd imagine many). Doesn't mean it's wrong, just isn't for everyone. And as much as it might suck to lose 2 miles of the Musky, it's legal for them to own the land and do as they wish with it (as long as it's legal). There's still a lot of open water that's accessible and well stocked throughout the year. Jerzguy2's history on the place is an unfortunate reality of how this state has progressed in affordability over the years. But at least the river's being maintained by a new club (even if it is membership exclusive). And hopefully there wasn't some (or any) kind of significant damages to it from it's restoration/renovation years ago. I'm sure the members there have a strong interest in maintaining the beauty and longevity of that fish ecosystem given how much they are contributing to it annually. Brian (Bucksnbows) is an excellent resource for that, as he's actively worked across the nation to achieve that exact objective for other land owners, clubs, and communities adjacent to river systems! rgw
brian I need your services. I need you to bring you equipment over and build me a stream. I have a good spring. I was going to wait for nj to legalize marijuana and farm that but I think I can make my millions quicker on a stocked trout club.

All it takes is a well with good flows......we do it all the time for wealthy ranchers out West. We build the pond and the recirculating stream that feeds it that the trout spawn in. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

stratocaster
Hey all, I am the manager of the Lodge at River Valley in Asbury, NJ. We are currently looking to add 3 new members that mesh with clubs sense of sustainability and community. The Lodge at River Valley is a members only fly fishing club situated along 2 miles of the Musconetcong River in Asbury, New Jersey. Our members routinely catch brown, rainbow, and brook trout - one of the rare fisheries where all three species can be found together. We also host multiple clay pigeon and wing shooting events on the property, as well as world class dining and lodging. See more at thelodgeatrivervalley.com and contact us if you're interested in membership. Cheers & tight lines Alex Ford Is this section between the shurts rd/valley rd bridge and Main st bridge in Asbury? Is this also the section with wild trout? stratocaster
Thanks Buck154, here is some pricing info about the Lodge. Annual membership dues at the Lodge are $5700, with a $12,000 initiation that can be paid over the course of 3 years. Our piece of the Musconetcong is just shy of two miles, and has an extremely high rate of holdover fish. We have an absolute cap of 20 members so you will often be the only person fishing the entire stretch, which is deemed a National Wild & Scenic River. We do stock it, but with an aim to keep fish around for a long time and to keep up with a family of bald eagles! We don't do any artificial feeding and are 100% fly fishing only / catch & release. Most of the dues go towards maintenance of the club and the river, but we are also in the process of building a sporting clays course on the Lodge grounds. We currently host 4 clay shoots a year at the Lodge, and we will be hosting our first wing shoot this fall. There are no guest fees at the Lodge, and you are free to stay overnight in one of the lodge's 3 rooms with a small cleaning charge. Also included with membership are golf and dining privileges at Hawke Point, a course just down the road from the lodge. I checked the site out, pretty cool. Why is this the last year you are allowed to stock brook trout?
jbosco1
I checked the site out, pretty cool. Why is this the last year you are allowed to stock brook trout? I believe its the last year to stock brookies because of the new trout Regs issued by fish and game this year.
Bucksnbows
Is this section between the shurts rd/valley rd bridge and Main st bridge in Asbury? Is this also the section with wild trout? No, it is below Asbury and well above Wolverton Road. There are wild trout throughout the Musky although it remains listed as Trout Maintenance waters. Most tributaries have wild brookies or browns or both in them, and those contribute to the wild fish in the mainstem. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

_X7
Looks like a great opportunity for those that can afford it. I'm just curious if it is a club that shares the assets or a private enterprise.

In this day of strict regulations, does anyone wonder how one could acquire permits to build new structures almost on the edge of a river such as the Musky? Hmm, many have the same question. Jerzguy2
Not , ,,,Sorry if you inferred that I was referring to your post. It was specifically directed toward the building of structures in an area along the "Musky" that word normally be restricted. I was implying that the type of individuals that join this "type" of "club" are not who you might enjoy spending your precious free time with. 1957Buck

As a member of the club and a staunch conservationist, I really don't appreciate the implication. This was not a club that was "built" by its members. Its a working farm that has had these same structures for centuries on it, the owners home is next door to the lodge. I implore you to join me for a day of fishing before you make accusations like that. Most of us are working guys who enjoy having a spot to fish and hunt in peace with likeminded individuals. 1957Buck
